External HDD - Time Capsule - Clicking Noise

Hi,

I have come across a unique problem, wherein suddenly, my WD external HDD connected to Time Capsule through USB powered adaptor has started emitting clicking noise and is not detected in Time Capsule.

When I connect this external HDD to my iMac its detected, so there is nothing working with external HDD.

What could be the issue and possibel solution for it.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Generally, any new, audible clicking sound coming from a hard drive, would predict drive failure within a fairly short time. In your case, it seems your external hard drive has already failed.

If you're able to somehow mount the drive again and the files are corrupted, you can see if any data can be ressurected with software like Data Resuce 3 or Disk Drill, which are both available in the App Store.
