Q: My iSight keeps turning off by itself in different programs

... such as (Google , Skype, etc) and usually comes back on after exiting the conversation and restarting a new one. No problems with voice or call connection. Camera is recognized per Utility folder and initiates with conversations without difficulty. Any ideas on what to do?

    (1) Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions and then download and apply the latest Combo Update, for your Mac OS, the current one is at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1524

Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.

(BTW - Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

    (2) If the problem remains, try using Apple's troubleshooting suggestions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 to test more than one Apple camera app in more than one user account

If the Apple apps work but Google, Skype, and other third-party applications do not, you should check for help in the web support pages for those problem third-party applications.

    (3) If the Apple apps exhibit the same problem as your third-party applications, there may be something wrong with your Mac.  Have it checked out by an Apple service technician.
