Is there are problem between Nikon and iPhoto program as I can get photos to go beyond the "last import" stage.

If the photos are in "Last Import" then they are in both photos and events - you just are looking in the wrong place
check your camera date and check the view menu ==> sort events

If you have imported the photos then they are in an Event or Photos because every photo is in these places.
Select a pic in Last Import and Right-Click on it. Choose 'Show Event' from the menu. This will bring you to the Event containing the photo.
If the photo is in Last Import, then the photo is in the Library somewhere, just not where you expect it to be. Usual causes: the date on your camera is wrong, and so the date on the photo is wrong, or the sorting of the Events has changed (View Menu -> Sort Events)

Thanks, Larry. I did have the date wrong on the new camera and when corrected, I found the new event. However, when I go to "photos", and I have my choice of sorting in photos as ascending and "by date" they are not right there, but in "last 12 months". Wonder if they will go to "photos" after I import a different batch of new photos. Or are they lost again.
Thanks, Terence. Please see my reply to Larry. Do you have any more good ideas for helping me find the latest photos when not in "events". I find them in "last import" so they have to be in "photos" and I have my sort choice by date there.
I couldn't find "show event" when I highlighted a photo in "last import", Terence. I have a Mac so couldn't right click but did highlight and when I looked under each menu in the bar, couldn't find "show event".
Yes you can right click on a Mac since, oh 1995 or thereabouts. Check the settings in your Mouse Preference Pane.
Or hold the control key and click.
Thanks again, Terence. NOw my only question left is why those last import photos aren't the last photos in my "photos" in the library, only in the "last import". The Last import photos are now the last event which is great.

And you can select the photos with the bad dates and use the adkust time and date command to correct them so they will be in the correct place

I have a new Nikon S6300 camera and can import photos from the camera to iPhoto without loading camera software program. However, I can't get the photos to go into an event or into the photos part of iPhoto like they have done with my Canon camera.
