Howto: set syslog address on airport?

Some time ago, in the Lion-era, I set-up my Airport Extreme and my Airport Express to route their syslog output to a server on my network (not my Mac!). To do that I used the Airport Utility 5.6 to enter the network address of the syslog server on both the Extreme and on the Express.

In Airport Utility 5.6 this setting was on the Advanced - Logging & Statistics tab and called: "Syslog Destination Address" and "Syslog Level".

Now, I've migrated my Macs to Mountain Lion only to find that (1) the Airport Utility 5.6 is nolonger supported and (2) the new Airport Utility apparently doesn't allow me to change the syslog server address settings on the Airport-devices.

Any advice on how to do this from Mountain Lion would be appreciated.

You can still run AirPort Utility v5.6 on OS X Mountain Lion; you just can't install it ... at least not in the traditional way. I would recommend that you consider using Pacifist to extract the utility directly from the disk image (.dmg) file. Place it in the /Applications/Utilities folder, and run it from there.

Thanks, but I don't think having to buy a third-party software package is the ideal solution.

For Pacifist, you don't have to buy it before you try it. The bottom line is until (or if) Apple decides to either allow v5.x to be installable on ML or add the "missing" features to v6.x, you have limited options.
