Why does clicking on former RSS feeds in Safari open Thunderbird?

I just found that Safari 6 doesn't support RSS feeds and when I click on the bookmarks that were formerly RSS feeds, it opens Thunderbird, a Mozilla mail product. Anyone know why this is happening?

You gave yourself an answer — because Safari 6 (and Mountain Lion) don't support RSS. Therefore, when you click on the feed link it opens Thunderbird which apparently can handle RSS. If you had a saparate RSS app like Reeder it would open the feed in that application because new Safari lacks the ability to open RSS feeds.
