Q: Just bought NEW Airport Express to extend my home network. Apparently the old airport extreme & old express are not supported in Mountain Lion. My Airport setup app. does not appear to see the New Airport Express. How can I make it visible

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the old Airport extreme & Express that I was using as Bridge do NOT work with new airport update in ML. No longer supported apparently so my network is now constricted. Primary base is a new Airport Extreme connected to Mac Pro.

Was at Apple Store yesterday & picked up a NEW Airport Express that I had just read about to use as a bridge & increase my wireless coverage in the house.

Aiprort Utility app. does not seem to recognize the new airport express.

It shows the old units with a msg no longer supported. In fact tells me to use airport utility app. 5.6 but when I download that it says can't work with ML.

Catch 22 here. Main issue now is how do I get newest Airport Express to become visible using as a Bridge to enlarge my network?

Thanks

OS X Mountain Lion

AirPort Utility 5.6 runs fine in OS X Mountain Lion; it just won't install ... at least, not in the traditional way. Instead, I would recommend a utility, like Pacifist, to first extract the actual utility from the disk image file (.dmg) to the /Applications/Utilities folder. From there it can be run as normal. With 5.6 installed, you should now be able to administer all of your AirPort base stations.

Thanks very much. I may try it.

Just talked with Apple support & by adding app for Airport to my iPhone I was able to setup my new Airport Express and it now is also visible on my Mac, so it is setup & working & much faster.

I guess I'll now have to think of getting rid of my old airport extreme & express.

    Thank you

Yes. You can keep both 5.y6 and 6.x on your Mac and use the one that you want. Best to install AirPort Utility 5.6 in the Utilities folder.
