Q: Magic Mouse keeps losing connection

For the past several days, my magic mouse keeps losing connection to my MacBook Pro, and most of the time it won't even connect at all. I thought the batteries needed changing at first, but that didn't help either. I keep going into my Bluetooth settings to try and manually connect it but, again, it didn't work. Can anyone suggest ways to try to fix this problem?

The paper trick seems to work for me, too. Better than trying to contact Apple "support" who kept me waiting on the phone for an hour and failed to even address the question let along answer it. They took my money very efficiently, though, when I bought the mouse.

Actually, I've found that some of the bulk batteries I've bought have been size appropriate. I've inly had the issue with batteries not being big enough using brand names like Panasonic .

Little piece of folded card and my magic mouse is as fabulous as the day I bought it.  Who would have thought !!

All things considered though, it seems pretty silly to have to tweek the mouse like this. I had the Apple batteries in mine and still had the same problem.

surely a company like Apple could have done better. I don't use mine any more. It was too problematic. Love the style and feel but that was as far as it went for me. An elcheapo much better which I found disappointing.

I started having the same problem, frequent and intermittent loss of connection. I solved my problem by cleaning the contacts with some emery paper.

    I have the same problem:

    1)  Using the Magic Mouse on an iMac Pro OSX 10.9.5 and a Mobee battery pack purchased from the Apple store,

    2)  Using a second mouse and second battery pack and having the same problem,

    3)  The problem persists on standard batteries (although I admit didn't stick paper in them),

    4)  The mouse is about 12 to 18 inches from the laptop,

    5)  My iPhone bluetooth is off.

Yes, it is more than annoying!

    Thank you for suggestions.

This thread is two and a half years old.   To get an up to date response it would be better to start a new thread.

Of all the suggestions so far, what's worked for me is the suggestion to put a thin washer between the negative end of the battery and the spring-loaded connection.

Thank you, that was an interesting suggestion.  I am using the Mobee rechargeable batteries one can't easily stick a washer in there, but your suggestion caused me to look further.

I pulled the battery pack in and out and got a different charge reading every time, always around 7% to 10%.   So I looked closely at the contacts and saw a pin-***** sized contact point on the battery pack where the nickel plating looked worn off and it appeared you could see brass underneath.  I "erased" both the battery contacts and the mouse contacts with a pencil eraser, put the battery back in and the charge read 74%!   The mouse works perfectly now!

I will see if that fixes the other mouse too when I go home.   THANK YOU for taking time to help me.

I had the same problem with magic mouse loosing connection intermittently. As it turn out, the the Eveready battery I was using had a nipple on positive terminal that caused the connection to fail. By sanding off the nipple, I got it to work. No issues since.

putting the piece of paper in between the batteries  helped.....to an extent......after I thought that it helped..... connection lost. Do I need to buy a new Apple wireless mouse? someone said reset the PRAM and something else? What is that?

    BOTTOM LINE

Just use the rechargable batteries Apple recommends and you shouldn't have any problems. Ever since I got 3 sets of them, I've never had an issue. Perhaps it shouldn't have to be that way, but it is what it is and that fixed my magic mice.
