Q: Magic Mouse keeps losing connection

For the past several days, my magic mouse keeps losing connection to my MacBook Pro, and most of the time it won't even connect at all. I thought the batteries needed changing at first, but that didn't help either. I keep going into my Bluetooth settings to try and manually connect it but, again, it didn't work. Can anyone suggest ways to try to fix this problem?

I have tried every suggestion here (batteries, contacts, etc, resetting software with apple tech supervision, a replacement mouse, etc) and the problem kept coming back. Then a week ago I updated from Yosemite to El Capitan, and it has not disconnected yet.

I took some cello tape and wrapped it around each battery (about 4 times) then replaced the batteries. It seems to have fixed the problem.

I appreciate the suggestion to add a little folded up paper, but sometimes paper will get squashed and loose some of its bulk, so I used a small piece of the very thin foam sheeting material often found in packaging of delicate products. It should retain its sponginess better. We'll see!

I can' tell you how helpful this was.  I had a Mighty Mouse that was working fine and then started dropping out constantly with a brand new set of batteries.  I switched out the batteries for some slightly larger (both were Amazon brand rechargeable), and I haven't had any problems since.  I was looking at buying a new Mighty Mouse 2, assuming my mouse had finally died on me, but this solution fixed that.

I was facing the same issue :-( but found solution. Actually i was using normal AA batteries where after using 40 - 50% mouse used to get disconnect frequently. It was heavy day, i've tried all given option mean keeping paper between batteries... deleting mouse and adding it again... but non of work. While on system preferences my batteries was remaining 54%. I jump to the store and got alkaline batteries since no issues.

Don't follow stupid things if not connecting means very simply short of power... change the source of power and enjoy :-)

The (Mac) restart + shut off mouse trick worked handily, thanks! ;-) I removed the Mighty Mouse from the list of devices but it still showed up in the bluetooth toolbar menu. Restored back to normal function. Symptoms were: no connection, mouse indicator light double-blinked repeatedly.

Brilliant! A folded piece of paper just saved me 80 euros I though I had to spend on a new mouse. Thank you

Genius!  I was being driven insane by this problem but have just wedged a bit of folded paper down in between the batteries, no fancy folding just wedged it in so there were no bits sticking out and all is working perfectly again!  Happy days!

This problem, of the Magic Mouse losing bluetooth connection, started a week ago. The mouse is at least 7 years old. The rechargeable batteries are the originals supplied with the Apple Battery Charger. The OS is El Capitan. So that eliminates the problems other users have mentioned earlier in Dec 2015. So I wedged a folded piece of paper in between the two batteries. I will see whether this solves the problem.

My mouse connection problem has just started, and it is dropping off every 10 seconds, after pretty much every use.      The mouse is about 1.5 years old and came with the iMac.  I have never had the problem before and I have not recently changed batteries.

Following this thread I have -

    • Reset PRAM and SMC
    • Cleaned the battery connectors
    • Added the paper to make it very secure
    • Removed phone & turned off all Bluetooth devices

As I haven't changed the batteries recently, or had this problem ever in 1.5 years, I don't think it can suddenly be caused by non connecting batteries.

It is making it impossible to use the computer at all.   The "connection lost" sign comes up and then 5 seconds later the "connected" sign comes up, then 5 seconds later "connection lost" and so on.

The only thing I can think of, to enable me to work today, is to buy a USB mouse.
