Why won't my photos send through text message?

When I try to send a photo to someone through text message it always fails to send. But when I send it to someone who has iMessage it works. Can someone help me figure out why it won't send through normal text?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1

Photos are not text. iMessage handles photos.

Have you made sure your cellular data is turned on? Go to settings>General>Network and you should be able to turn cellular data on and off here. I have the Iphone 4s and I can't send pictures in text unless i am using data, i can't send them using my wireless connection at home. My home wireless is at&t and so is my celll, the data has to be turned on, I guess thats how they make their money.

ckuan - When sending messages on the iPhone, the user does not do anything different whether it's SMS or MMS. The fact that one attaches a pic is what makes it MMS, but it goes thru the same app - Messages. I'm sure tonefox does know there are women on this forum, still, it's not nice to be addressed as the wrong gender, so it was just a gentle reminder.

Yes the user needs to know the differences. Some carrier do not support MMS even when SMS is supported. So the user has to contact their carrier and find out. It's not our fault if the OP uses the wrong terminology since we are not sitting next to him/her and certainly we couldn't read minds.

I think your reminder is not needed.

Did you tried sending using a small picture?

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)

Note: You will not lose any data.

If the above didn't helped, do a restore from backup using iTunes.

Lastly, restore as new without the backup.
