Why is my data being used so fast all of a sudden

I've used nearly a months data usage in about five days. O2 gave me 500mb as a good will gesture 2 days ago and I've already used over 200mg???? Help please.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

Get DataMan to keep track and warn you of approaching limits. Turn off cellular data whenever you are not using it, particularly when home on wifi (if you have it at home, of course.) Your phone will stay connected to wifi when off only if also connected to a power source. Maps uses a ton of data, be sure to close it and all other data consuming apps when done with them. Check your email set up to be sure it isn't continuously trying to contact the server.
