does power nap work with a firmware password?

I have a Power Nap compatible MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011) which has received the firmware update from Apple that is supposed to enable Power Nap. Power Nap is also enabled for both battery and power adaptor use in energy preferences. The Mac is running 10.8.1.

However, I can see from my system logs (and lack of any updates to apps) that Power Nap is not working.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of it, and am wondering if anyone knows whether a firmware password could conceivably be the cause of Power Nap not working. Unfortunately I can't toggle it off to test it because it is set by my company's IT department and they don't give users the password.
