suddenly VLC plays videos w/ LOTS of ghosting ?

hi guys

i got all my dvd collection into an hard drive using Handbrake ( great simple app, love it !.. ) & this way was able to box all my movies, get them out of my living room & into my basement thus ''reclaiming'' valuable living room space !

now i could use the shelves for that couple of boxes with books i had nowhere to put AND all my media was managed via my iMac, while not taking up more than a few square inches, iTunes taking care of my music & after fiddling about w/ both Quicktime & VLC i decided to go with VLC as my ''movie player'' - perfect ! or so i thougt....

after playing PERFECTLY each & every movie, all of a sudden VLC started playing every movie with LOTS of ghosting, as if it dragged characters through the movie screen as a paint brush kind of effect, each one leaving a ''trail'' behind them as they move - VERY weird ....

fearing something had gone wrong with the drive or the video files themselves, i tried playing them w/ Quicktime ( both X & Pro..) & they played them perfectly so it seems to be definitely down to VLC pulling some sort of tantrum !?

as i usually do in these instances, i googled up the problem, read through page after page after page of what seemed similar problems but to no avail....

anyone here knows or has experienced what i'm describing & could point me in the right direction to sort this ? i tried uninstalling VLC ( w/ AppZapper.. ) downloaded it again & re-installed it but it still does it

it's such a strange artifact, it makes you feel like one's drunk or on some kind of drug or something & the movies are TOTALLY unwatchable...

any help would be most welcome - thanks in advance...

oh man, i feel so stupid !.....

i managed to find what was wrong with VLC :

in my endless fiddling ( as i like doing to ''explore'' a software.. ) somehow i ticked the ''Motion Blur'' box in the Video Effects pane in VLC so....

of course the bloody thing felt like a REAL bad drinking binge

moral of the story ? if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing, either keep careful track of what you select or then better yet - keep your little paws to yourself !...LOL...
