AppleTV gen 2 stutters and then crashes

When I play 96/24 audio files on AppleTV2, at first there is some obvious stuttering, then after a few stutters, AppleTV2 puts up the message that there is an error loading this content.

These problems started occuring with the most recent update to the AppleTV2 software.

Is there a way I can revert to an earlier version of the software, as this version has become ridiculously unusable.
