I was testing the "find my device' feature on the icloud.com site. I found my "mac mini" and clicked the "Lock" feature. Next, my mac automatically turned off, then it came back on, but only with a blinking "?" showing on the screen. Now, I am having trouble unlocking my mac in icloud. it still shows as "locked" in icloud. thanks for your help! ;-)

It appears that I am going to have to take my mac into an apple store...according to this statement on the link that you sent to me:

"Only Apple retail stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers can unlock computers protected by a firmware password, such as passwords set with Find My Mac."

...unless there is some other way to unlock it. I can't get past that blinking question mark (?) by typing my password.

I had the same problem after I locked my Macbook to test the feature. Afterwards, it rebooted and started displaying an icon of a folder with a flashing ?.

I rebooted it again by holding down the power key for about 10 sec. Then after it chimed, immediately held down the Option key until I was prompted for the passcode. Then I was prompted for boot options..chose Macintosh HD (not Recovery). At this point a locked computer screen was displayed including cells for entering the passcode again.

After that, my computer started normally.
