Anyone know if the Podcasts app will eventually support playlists since apparently the Music app will no longer support podcasts in iOS 6?  I like watching video podcasts on my iPhone at the gym (esp sine the music app on the iPad won't do video playlists), and do not want to have to keep choosing a new podcast whilst working out.

Nobody here knows for sure, but I would guess that it would almost have to support playlists in iOS6.

Just upgraded to iOS 6. It doesn't appear to support playlists, and what's worse, the iTunes playlist that I've been using for many years—which is a part of the routine of my daily life—is now empty. No podcasts showing up there.

So instead of having a "hopper" of many podcasts loaded up, I now have to go to the iPhone manually every few minutes to pick a new one. Even when I'm running.

One solution that occurs to me is to do Get Info on all the podcasts and just change the media type to Music... but would that they screw up the iTunes podcast download system? Would that get in the way of podcasts being automatically cleared when they've been listened to? Would I need to go back to manually plowing through my big page of podcasts and pruning them by sight?

Please give us back a podcast playlist option.

This is oh so frustrating!  I have a script that generates my own "radio station" by intermixing the podcasts since it's boring to listen to the same one.  I miss it

I agree this is so frustrating, it worked well before. Now its broken. Apple this is not an improvement ! Stop releasing apps half baked with reduced functionality !!!

You can change the Media Kind once it's on your device.

    This is so bad, Apple!

I make temporary playlists all the time and I need to mix podcasts, music, audiobooks and sometimes video.

With the Nike running program, you could set up hours of listening while you ran. Now you can't without a lot of editing of mediatypes.

The Podcast app is no substitute. It doesn't have playlists. It is slow and buggy. And you can't mix music, books, and podcasts.

    Bring back this essential functionality!

This lack of functionality has rendered the primary function that I use my phone for as completely useless...

This makes no sense and is a critical takeaway that, for me, outweighs any "enhancements" in iOS6. Never would have downloaded it had I known about this "feature".  Please, Apple, restore this functionality right away.

Thanks Apple for breaking the main feature I use on my iPhone.  Like others here, I mainly listen to podcasts, and I have a smart playlist that has the shows I listen to in reverse chrological order, so I just queue up the list and listen.

I am so incredibly frustrated that podcasts were removed from music before a playlist feature was added to the podcast app.

For some reason Apple breaks podcasts playlists in just about every major release.  Usually they end up being shown out of order, but hey, this time playlists are gone all together.

Wish I had saved the ipsw before moving to 6.0 so I could go back.

I should note that there is a list view in the podcast app, but for some reason it is in reverse chronological order (newest first).  This order won't work for die hard podcast listeners.  The list should be in chronological order, otherwise you end up having really old podcasts linger at the bottom of the list.

In my original post I say my list is in reverse chron order, but I mean chronological order.

In iTunes you can go in and change Media Kind from podcast to music as a work around.  It's not ideal though, becuase then the track gets moved out of the Podcast section in itunes and you lose feautures like keep only unplayed episodes and keep last x episodes etc.  Again one could probably write an applescript, toggling the media kind depending on play count, but seriously, what a hack.

Please, please pretty please add playlists to the podcast app so that it uses the smart playlist from iTunes.

You are kidding right - how did 'removing basic functionality' get through the reqression tests?  Playlists not being in the dedicated app was strange, but to actually sanction the removal of Podcasts from the music app BEFORE adding support for playlists is just poor.

Playlists for Podcasts isn't exactly new or revolutionairy - but it is extremely important to me (and clearly a few others too).  I listen to a mix of podcasts every day on my commute and prepare a single list ahead of my journey.  I sometimes even (controversially) want that playlist to include music or audiobooks!

I have got used to buggy playlist/podcast behaviour (for example the inability to re-order podcasts on my phone when adding to a playlist), but this takes the biscuit!

Please reinstate rapidly - I for one am going to hold fire on iPhone 5 until this is resolved as this is the primary use of my phone.

I cannot believe this.  Why would Apple ever make such an obvious mistake?  Why take away such an essential function with something that is more limiting?

I'm furious. This is not only annoying, it's a potential safety hazard. I use playlists to set up hours of podcasts so that I don't have to look down while I'm driving. That's right, Apple. Poor design puts lives at risk. Fix this.

My #1 use of the iPhone is listening to an updated playlist of select podcasts in chronological order. I am actually in a bit of a panick now that this functionality is gone. This seems nuts to me. I have associated Apple with podcasting for many years. What happened? Please help!
