Exactly what version of OS X is running, your profile indicates 10.6.5 however I seriously doubt that is the version of OS X installed.

Running 10.8.1..
I am able to log into guest account..
I did what I think is all the trouble shooting..
Disconnect all wired peripherals reboot still problem.
Boot in safe mode same issue spinning beach balls
Reset the NVRAM / PRAM
Disk Utility form my MT Lion boot stick . Ran Disk and Permissions repair still spinning balls.
I could reboot from my clone and or nuke and pave..I have a number of back ups from yesterday
But I think that there may be an issue with my admin user account, as it is not recognizing me. I was thinking that if I log in as a guest open permissions reset to me then try the log in it might just work.
I think yasu locked me out when the power went out as it was not finished…
