Hi, dayton —
I was scanning through this forum, and noticed that you haven't received any replies to your query. Not wanting you to feel as if nobody cares, I'll reply with what I can. Perhaps you've already answered it yourself. In case not...
I shan't provide a definitive and specific answer — although I think I can guess what it is. Instead, I believe it'll be most helpful to you to summarize a few resources that can usually help determine this kind of thing:
(a) Go back to the
MacBook Pro main page and use the search box in the top-right-hand corner. A search for, e.g.,
< +external +DVD drive > yields quite a few results. Although I don't see any from a quick scan that address this specific drive (except your thread), there are many, imo,
that answer the essential question of what & how the MacBook Pro supports external DVD+/-RW drives.
(b) Xlr8yourMac's Drive Compatibility Database is usually an outstanding resource for questions like this. It allows search by drive type, brand, Mac model, etc. — and then leads to ~detailed experience(s) logged by users of their experiences. Because the MacBook Pro is so new, there's nothing to find yet... but there will be. To give you an idea, there are 48 detailed reader reports about various Plextor DVD+/-RW drives in the database. In general, the accerelate your Mac website is a great resource on many Mac topics, particularly wrt hardware.
(c) Plextor's website has a lot of useful info — though nothing that I can find about use with a MacBook Pro. A lot of what's available is linked from the PX-716UF product page — but their PSupport » FAQs, etc. are also pretty good.
I hope this is helpful to you — at least in some small way.
Regards,
Dean
