Time machine wont let me select purple backups!

Hi All,

i recently installed a new SSD on my macbook pro and decided to do a fresh install of OSX without restoring everything. When i go to restore specific files from time machine i cant select the purple tick mark i need. the date is there, so i know it exists, i click it and nothing happens! the space view windows dont move! i tried clicking 1000 times and waiting and still nothing. i CAN however go and find the files manually by navigating finder once time machine is mounted. any ideas? did i mess something up when i did the fresh install?
