When trying to drag an application icon off the dock the icon "sticks" to the cursor. Also, in finder windows the same phenomenon occurs when I attempt to move an icon to a new location.
Attempted solutions: restart with PRAM clear, reinstall OS X, clear system caches, etc.
No luck so far. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

What is your double click speed for your mouse set to?
In Finder you need to command-drag to move icons on the Finder toolbar.
AFA Dock icons to drag off the Dock and "poof" make sure you have dragged it high enough off the Dock.
Also, What happens on the Dock icon if you click and choose "Options > "Remove form Dock"?
macjcack: Options>Remove did remove the icon and moving the icon higher (mid-screen) did "poof" the app from dock. After Options>Remove all seems to work OK. Thanks.
This problem has reappeared. From a Finder window, I attempt to move an application to a new folder window and the icon "sticks" to the cursor and will not drop. I can move the cursor anywhere else and the icon continues to stick to the icon. Cursor functions do not work - double-click, etc. When the curson moves to the Dock, the icons on the dock move apart as if preparing to allow me to drop the icon onto the Dock, but it doesn't drop. Have to Force Quit Finder to cure the problem.
Yes, now sounds more like a Finder problem... try this
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
the problem is actually with the graphics driver. to solve, you need to put the computer to sleep at least once after booting. So, reboot, icon will stick. put laptop to sleep, open lid, icons will now drop.
I've also heard of the symptom when a program called AirDisplay is installed on some MBpros.
TThe Graphics Driver seems to be the issue for me... This happens frequently, and I have to put the MacBook Pro to sleep, then wake it up, the files/folders are then released from the mouse pointer. Crazy!!! Does any one know how to resolve this issue to keep from repeating? - Thanks
