iTunes and Books on Mac

I have never been able to easily retrieve anything from iTunes Library except MUSIC. Of course, that is what it was originally designed for and does a great job.

I use the apps from the app store and books, both ebooks and iBooks but after downloading to whichever "machine" I happened to be on, it is awkward or difficult to get onto another .. download to IOS and then want on 10.7 .. no "Devices" in iTunes Library to drag to..

They used to have 'Chat' but that apparently is gone.

Apologies -- This is a bit of a rant .. but would really appreciate someone explaining how to get it done.
