2008 iMac trouble with internet

My iMac is working fine, except on the web. Some things load fine, other things are very slow or won't load at all. Sometimes m Mail works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm accessing the net via Uverse's 2Wire wireless modem. My iPad, iPhone and MacBook all have no problems from the same location. This started yesterday, wasn't a problem this morning, but has been so slow it's pretty much useless all afternoon. Any ideas?

Hi, this has worked for a few...

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

10.7…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Click OK.

Also, turn off IPv6:

System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6

Or whatever Interface you use.

I should add, this is a very intermittent problem. Very early Thursday morning, it was fine. After an hour or so, it slowed again. That afternoon, I not could not get anywhere on the internet, I couldn't even connect to my MacBook so as to transfer from files. That evening, it was fine again. Yesterday, it was fine most of the day, but every once in awhile, it would be really slow again. Everytime I check the MacBook or my iPad internet speed is great.

I konw there are some on this Forum who claim to have no trouble with the 2WireGateway modems but after struggling for weeks and weeks I finally got an Airport Extreme and ethernet connected to the 2Wire and have been trouble free since. You will also be able to set up a 5GHZ WiFi network and have less interference from other nearby networks/appliances.

Well, I have not had problems with the 2Wire before. Speeds have consistently been what we are paying for them to be. And as I've said, this problem is only happening with my iMac. I put my MacBook on the desk right in fron of my iMac. According to speakeasy's speedtest, the iMac had download/upload speeds of .21mbs/.91mbs, while the MacBook's were 7.1mbs/2.3mbs (I am not at an optinal place relative to the modem, for reasons that aren't relevant, or I would be getting 10+mbs, as the MacBook does in a more optimal location). If there was a 2Wire problem, it would not be possible for the MacBook to be doing fine.

And as I've said, the iMac's problems are intermittent. Sometimes, the speed is fine. This started one week ago today. Could there be a hardware problem? Is it a OS 10.74 problem (the iMac runs 10.74, but the MacBook is on 10.72)? I'm doubtful, because I updated to 10.74 when it came out, not last Sunday.

I guess I'm going to have to fork over bucks at the Apple store...
