Custom Configurations At Local Apple Store?

I previously bought my G5 and iBook in the "standard" configurations from my local Apple Store. I'd like to pick up a MacBook with at least a 7200 rpm drive upgrade. Are custom configurations available at Apple retail stores? Thanks!

You can definitely get the 2.16 Ghz + 7200RPM 100GB HDD config at the Apple Store.

Interestingly, your best bet is if you have several stores around-- in my case the White Plains, NY store swore up and down that the 2.16 models were not available in-store, a quick call to the Palisades store in Nyack proved that was not true-- so I was able to pick up the above config there.

Now, if you wanted another CPU version and the 7200RPM drive -- you have to go CTO.

Good luck,

Contrary to what some are saying here, I called the Salem, NH Apple Store yesterday about the 2x512 memory stick option on the MBP 2.0. I was told that the MBP is only available (in the box) in the standard build of the three models, 1.83, 2.0, and 2.16. Optional items like HD and memory would have to be ordered online or by telephone with Apple Sales.
