First iBook published using IBA- results since July
I really thought I would have a long wait once I hit submit from IBA. Instead of weeks or months waiting, it published in a couple of days. Our first iBook, How to Haunt Your House, Book One (interactive version) went live in the iTunes store in July. It contains lots of videos, photo galleries, 3d interactions, and 200 pages of redesigned format from the print version.
I spent 4 months getting a MAC laptop, learning IBA, and putting the iBook together. I did have to disable the portrait view, as I couldn't get it to work with all my design elements. I wanted all full color pages similar to the print version. I did have to do a few work arounds to get the look I wanted, such as the headlines in a special font. In the end, I used graphics for the headlines and hid the text version of the headline behind it in order for the TOC to work right.
We have sold about 40 iBooks so far. My biggest complaint is figuring out sales data. The whole ITunes Connect is really boring looking and somewhat confusing even though it really doesn't do a whole lot. I'd love to just know a total sales number since publishing... but that just doesn't seem to exist.
I really liked IBA, but I want so much more! I'll have to turn to HTML5 to really get more options and that means for time learning. I hope the original excitment of IBA isn't going to fade away. We don't all want to create textbooks.
If you would like some free sample chapters of an IBA created iBook that is mostly photo-based, please feel free to check out: http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/how-to-haunt-your-house-book/id543395224?mt=11
