Recovering lost Safari bookmarks

how do I prevent iCloud from syncing my bookwarks to the work account on my laptop?

Open System Preferences > iCloud and deselect Safari.

Okay I've upgraded to ios6 and now my Safari bookmarks are gone. ***! I want them back. I wasn't asked and I don't understand why they are gone. Please help! Do I have to restore off of iOS 6?????

I have the same problem. I hope someone has a solution to this problem...I had an awful lot of bookmarks.

Okay...I just found the solution for us Rich152

Go to Settings--> Safari --> make sure Always Show Bookmarks Bar is set it "ON"

No setting like that on my iPhone 4S.

Sorry about that Martin...i guess that setting is available only on the iPad.

Hmmmm....how about this....the next time you sync your iPhone with iTunes select your iPhone under "Devices" in the left hand pane --> go to the "Info" tab --> scroll down to the "Other" section --> check "Sync bookmarks with" and then select your browser from the dropdown menu on the right. If you had been synching this way all along then this should already be selected...in theory. If not and you want to REPLACE the bookmarks on your iPhone with the bookmarks in your browser on your computer then scroll down to the next section labeled "Advanced" and check the box labeled "Bookmarks". Although this may not be the solution you were looking for I hope this helps.

I found the solution when I went to iCloud in Settings and saw that Safari had been turned off (from syncing with iCloud I suppose). Turning it ON restored my bookmarks. Why it was OFF is the next mystery,

Today, all my Bookmarks are gone, replaced with Tabs from my MacBook.

I do not want Tabs, so I turned off the link from iCloud, and they are gone but Bookmarks still do not appear.

I just followed your advice, DumbBunny, and synced with Bookmarks selected, then quit and restarted Safari, and the Bookmarks are back.

Lost all my bookmarks one by one on all my periphery equipment (iPhone5, ipads, kids' iPhone, etc...) then, finally, my MacBook Pro.

Lost more of my hair due to hair pulling of self...

So, here's how I got them back:

1. The issue is with syncing Safari with the iCloud

2. Open iTunes on your computer

3. Plug device into computer for sync

4. DESELECT Safari under iCloud on device

5. On iTunes, go to Info tab

6. Scroll down to Other

7. Select Sync Safari Bookmarks ( This option is not available if Safari is ON on your device. This will work wether or not the bookmarks are on your computer or not... Mine magically came back from the ether)

8. Select Apply and begin sync

9. Rejoyce and buy a frosty beverage in the name of an "internet solution".

((your results may vary, but it's worked on 5 of my devices including my MacBook))

Yesterday, (Jan 9th), the bookmarks on my iPhone 4 were fine. This morning they were gone. I rebooted the phone at around noon PST, and the bookmarks were still gone. I rebooted again just now, (1:00PM PST), and my bookmarks are back. I made no other changes of any kind yesterday or today. Hope this helps.

This just happened with my iPhone, too. I tried all the fixes you did. Shutting down Safari worked. I am happy that I did not lose the bookmarks I had added to my iPhone with the help of iPhone Bookmark Recovery.

thank you thank you! i have been trying to figure out when they disappeared and reading these notes I figured it happened after the last time I synced the phone. Thanks for the clear directions to restore them!

Ok. I found a solution. Open Safari and click the tab to add a bookmark. When I did this all my bookmarks can back. I arbitrarily added the bookmark and then went back toy bookmarks and all were there.

I also need to better check my script before uploading. Autocorrect can be a bear sometimes. So here it goes again:

Open Safari and click the tab to add a bookmark. Then add the bookmark. All your bookmarks should then appear. You can then delete the temporary bookmark your created to fix it.

I'll take you through all the possibilities of recovering the lost Safari bookmarks.
=> Check for iCloud backup if you have any so that you can restore the bookmarks saved on iCloud.
=> Check for iTunes backup. Download and install the free software "iPhone Backup Extractor" and launch the app. It will automatically search for any backups on your computer.
=> Check for your lost bookmarks in Windows/Users/Contacts folder. There are times when iTunes saves the contacts in this folder.
