What shows up on the iPod's display when you have it connected to a high powered USB 2.0 port on your PC? Have you tried using a different 30 pin dock connector USB cable to rule out the possibility that your current one is faulty or damaged?

With the iPod still connected to your PC, try to reset it. To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

I assume you are running the latest version of iTunes (10.6.3 as of this writing)?

My Ipod Says that it is connected to my computer. I have tried using a different usb cable and still nothing. I have tried reseting it, and putting it into disk mode, but it still doesn't work.

I am using the most current version of i tunes.

Also I have connected it to my mothers laptop and her laptop reconizes it.

Since the iPod used to work with your PC, can you think of what might have changed since the last night you were able to successfully connect and sync the device with iTunes? Perhaps you recently installed some new software or drivers?

Does a Devices section appear in the left hand pane of iTunes when you have the iPod connected?

Ive had my ipod classic for 4-5 years and i love it. Since installing the latest itunes, my computer (not apple) no longer recognises it but it will recognise my hubbys newer one !

I went in to my local Apple store with my ipod and laptop. My ipod was recognised straight away on the Apple computer. The man said that the problem was with the computer and not my ipod. He tried to install a new driver but was completely stumped and didnt know what else to try.

Ive tried all the videos on youtube, have tried to re-install an older version of itunes but to no avail.

I am gutted !!!

I have tried 3 different cables already.

Sorry, you didn't mention it at all in your previous posts.

Did you completely remove all Apple related software from your system and re-installing it from scratch using the exact instructions in this Apple support document? I know you said you removed and re-installed it, but did you follow these exact steps and removed ALL Apple related software?

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

Ok,

I have done all of the above as suggested.

Under devices and printers it now shows under devices our laptop and 'apple ipod usb device' and under unspecified it says 'apple mobile device jusb driver'.

When my sons ipod is connected under devices is shows the laptop and just 'ipod' and nothing under unspecified at all.

I just cannot understand why the newer ipods we have get recognised immediately and the older ones dont and this is only since we installed i-tunes 10.7.

Please help! Computer won't recognize Ipod!
