I am a new mac user and want to create a school flyer to distribute. I would like to add small graphic or border and will print only in black and whilte.

thank you for your help! so if you are "switching over" to mac do i buy pages and re learn, buy both or just buy MO? Can every other Microsoft Office user open and edit or see my work created in pages or spread sheets created in Numbers?

No. Microsoft Office is cross-platform, Pages and Numbers are not necessarily so.
You will probably have to buy Pages or Microsoft Office or any other such application. There isn't a default application that you can do this in.
