Q: How to fix Mac OSX mountain lion battery life with 3 simple terminal commands!

Hello, the other day i bought a macbook pro retina display, and it came pre loaded with mountain lion. I immediately started doing a test on a 3d game, and saw how short the battery life was. I was extremely disapointed by this, and needed a solution. I finally found it. This works on any mac (laptop or desktop) running mac OSX 10.8+ (any version of mountain lion). Make sure to save a copy of your wallpaper because this will reset your wallpaper to default. This will not remove any of your files/folders, except for your desktop wallpaper.

  • Open up Terminal on your Mac and type “ cd ~/Library/Preferences/” (without the quote marks) and hit return.
  • Now enter “rm com.apple.desktop.plist” and hit enter again.
  • Finally, enter “killall Dock”

This should add a good few hours extra to your battery life. Enjoy!

How frustrating.  If you've tried resetting the SMC and that doesn't help, then I think a discussion with Apple is in order for you.

10.8.2 turned out to do quite a bit of good for my MacBook Air's battery issues.  More here.'

    Best of luck!

The battery calculator said 3:45 hr remaining and start increasing over time after a few mimute wrighting this message it is now 6:13 hr remaining at 98% battery level. It looked better if it will not losing too fast. Hope for the best. Thank you. It is now 6:43 hrs.at 97% level.

After a good sleep last night, the calculator says 5:15 hr remaining at 75% level. The drop looked not too bad. The remaining hour is on the rise too. Wonder why? It's now 5:45 hrs at the same level 75%.

It still looked  pretty the same for a fast drain!! I think I'll give up doing this stupid thing again. Completely waste of time. I spent more than half of my working life config the Windows based machine those days. I won't get suck into this again. If it drain, let it run dry. I will carry all the AC adaptro wherever I go again. Not to bother this again. The Apple personel may be too busy releasing things to the market and make money. I'm just a poor and stupid user. That's all. I'll continue doing my money making job again after spent several long night working with this. ****!!

OK! Confirmed. This method won't work for my MBP. Still fast drain. It may have more than 8:00 hr just after full charge but continue fast drain soon after that. The actual normal use is expected no more than 3 hrs.

I would suggest Apple to supply a portable "nuclear power plant" for mac user real quick.

    Hi,

I tried working on the fix above on my recently bought Macbook Pro. Same experience and problem with Sixtieth Degree and it worked! The remaining time of the battery, increases.

But the issue is, after I fully charged again my laptop on the next day, it goes back again to 3 hours remaining time.

Should I always use the fix to increase the battery time of my laptop?

    Thnaks!

Thanks for posting the SMC tip.  After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my battery was going out in about 2.5 hrs.  After following the instructions at your link, my system is saying I have around 5 hours left.  Great news!

    Hi

I just bought a 15" MBPR. The battery life is disappointing and i'm thinking i'll just send it back. Do any of you guys regret buying yours? You will have had them a lot longer than me....
