Because the hardware won't support it. You need to upgrade to a newer model if you want the latest iOS and apps.

because Apple ***** dick and we are consumers not customers so if we care for their well made product and don't break it they update the firmware so the old products need to be thrown out and buy a new one. there should be a law. Reminds me of the movie antitrust.
