Does My iphone 3GS have a virus?

Ever since my standard iphone email app automatically opened up a spam email (without clicking on the link), my iPhone hardware keys (screen on/off and volume control) don't work. What to do?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1.1

It is more likely a problem with the iPhone than a virus...try power off/on, then soft reset by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears (ignore the red slider) and the iPhone restarts.

Thanks Ralph - I wish it worked, but the hardware on/off button won't work. Only the round button that lets you switch between apps works. So when I push both buttons it goes to "voice control".

In that case it sounds like a hardware failure, that is, the power button. Not much option but a visit to an Apple store genius bar or authorized repair service to have the techs check it out and see if it can be repaired.
