Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Since we can't use Adobe Flash on MACs, what do we use instead? H.264 is expensive!

Although I'm not technologically competent, if something is explained to me in non-geek-speak, I can understand ~ sort of. This morning, while trying to watch certain videos on my Macbook Pro, I received the message that Flash was blocked. I eventually found an article written by Steve Jobs in 2011 regarding why Adobe Flash is not permitted on Apple products, explaining the disadvantages, which I understood. The article talked about an alternative, an open source project called WebKit, that uses HTML5 which is allegedly "the heart of the Safari web browser," and a superior way to enable videos on Apple products. I found HTML5 in the Apple App Store for $39.95. Hello? If WebKit is the "heart of the Safari web browser," wouldn't that mean it's already installed in the Macbook Pro? We've paid a premium for owning an Apple rather than a PC (or, in my case, abandoning the PC because of its inability to be there when I need it!) Someone, please explain to me why I suddenly can't watch all the videos I want on my MAC. What am I missing here? I should mention that I do have Google Chrome on my MAC, which I use as default for my e-mail. Thanks for reading this far!

HTML5 support is already included in your Mac. There is no need to buy anything, it just works.

If you choose to install Flash Player on your Mac, you may do so as long as you use the latest version and download it only from:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I use Safrai Plugin ClickToPlugin v 2.7 (successor to ClickToFlash) to suppress the automatic playing of Flash items. If H.264 versions are available, they are shown first, and I can choose to play them by clicking on them. It works well and does not give me any trouble.

you need to learn how to filter out and how to search what you do find on the web.

And then find out what OS, Chrome tends to update itself and you don't mention if you had trouble in Chrome or elsewhere and whether you have a conflict with plug-ins being installed and enabled or not.

Or what you last did. So that you need to reinstall Flash...

While at it, you do not want Java - but you do want javascript for instance.

And you aren't developing apps using WebKit but using Safari or Chrome (or Firefox 15.x)

I would be saying you have posted in a forum that is not aimed at your issues, that you need to provide more information.

This forum is frequented by workstation tower issues.
