I bought the trackpad to use with my desktop instead of my mouse. I can get into app, but can click on anything to select

.  I tried click with one and two finger.

There are two ways to click.  The first is to enable Tap to Click in System Preferences > Trackpad > Point & Click tab.  Then a one finger tap should "click".

The second is a physical click where you push down on the lower left of the trackpad.   Make sure the trackpad is on a firm, flat surface.
