Just that, it says 204 pin in the article about what ram my mid 2011 imac would accept, and says 204 pin. I'm assuming it's a typo and not that I have to break 36 pins off of something

It's correct as written. That iMac requires 204 pin SO-DIMMs and not 240 pin DIMMs.
