dashboard goes away

dashboard goes away

I have a brand new MacBook Air running Mountain Lion. Everytime that I try to go to the Dashboard, it stays there for a second and then reverts back to my desktop. Any suggestions?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

i have this problem, too. in my case, it was caused by VMWare Fusion 5. suspending my windows virtual machine that was in Unity mode worked around the issue.

Does anyone out there have a suggestion that isn't user specific for those having the same problem?

(gesture to dashboard, it switches right back to desktop / previous viewing screen)
