No video with Airplay and HBO Go

I subscribe to HBO with my DirecTV account and downloaded the HBO GO app to my iPad. I tried to watch a program through HBO GO and can see the Airplay icon on my iPad, but when I select Airplay and link it to my Apple TV I get the audio only, the video continues on my pad and on the TV I get the audio and a little iTunes icon in the lower left part of the screen.

Is there a way for me to Airplay both the audio and video to my Apple TV through HBO GO or is this Apple's way of keeping me from watching content not streamed from iTunes?
