Suddenly, my iPhone won't charge while it is switched on and then when battery was dead, I was able to charge it while it was off. Tried again when it was turned on but no hope. Anyone can help

Clean the dock connector with a soft dry brush.
Try a different charger.
I tried different charger and same charger different iPhone. The problem with my iPhone. It charges only when it is battery empty and switched off
So take it to Apple for evaluation.
had the same exact problem and it was found to be due to a defective integrated circuit -- a hardware problem. Apple replaced my phone with a new one. Others have had this problem. Take it to Apple and get a replacement. It should be covered under warranty. good luck
