Hi,

Hinge broken for MBA is factory defect. Apple have to look into it even if it already pass the warranty period. When to the authorise service center in mr country and was ask to pay for the replacement of LCD as the hinge come together with the LCD. It will cost me nearly $1000 singapore dollar.

Please update me if you got any ways or answer on this issue. Thanks.

This issue WAS under a replacement program which existed until July 2012.

My 2008 original Air had its hinge broken, so I took it to the nearby AASP and they argued that I had to pay.

So I showed them http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2948 and got it replaced it for free. That was April 2012.

They warned me that this program was only active until July, and since it's 2013 right now, you should pay for the replacement. Sorry about that.
