How to install a driver for canoscan lide 30 on OS X 10.8?

I have a 2002 canoscan lide 30 that i used just a few times before, now i try to use it again but i'm unable to find the possibility of installing any driver. Any suggestions?

I have te same scanner. Here are the solutions I posted in the Lion forum earlier this year...

__________

I have a similar model scanner (LiDE 30). The drivers and the CanoScan software are Power PC. Canon is not supporting these models for Lion. Fortunately, you do have other options...

1) VueScan (http://www.hamrick.com/) - Easy to install and use scanner software (no drivers needed) that will support a large range of scanners. Unfortunately, it's a bit pricey ($40 for a standard license, $80 for a professional license). You can use the unpaid version if you don't mind having watermarks on all of your scans.

2) TWAIN SANE (http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/) - I chose this option. It's free, but it is a bit more cumbersome to install. The installation packages, essentially, create a driver that will allow your computer to recognize your device. Once installed, OS X's built-in "Image Capture" app will become your scanner's primary interface.

Do note, that with either option, you will no longer be able to use the buttons on the scanner to execute functions (no fix for this, sorry). You ask me, that's a small price to pay for continued usability.

I know it's a bit late, but maybe one day someone else will stop by this thread.

I had a similar problem. Vuescan wasn't really an option as it is cheaper to get a new scanner. (It's a great App though).

TWAINSANE refused to even try to install itself on my machine.

I downloaded a driver (suggested by Alfred DeRose) for ScanLide 35. (Others didnt work.) http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/scanners/LiDE_ser ies/CanoScan_LiDE_35.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:13-732841&page=5&type=download

Im using ScanLide 40, so i am not sure, it it will fly with 30 series.

After I restarted my computer and plugged a cable couple of times, it started t owork with Image Capture.

Cheers.

Hi Tommy,

in these days I had the same problem and I found this great step by step guide!!!! http://macmanus.nl/2013/03/11/use-unsupported-scanner-in-mountain-lion/

For me it worked perfectly and now I use Lide 30 on Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.4).

You must use Vuescan to use the scanner because image capture don't mount the scanner.

Thanks to Macmanus for sharing this guide.

Hope this help

I have altogether a different experience. Got a CanonScan Lide 100, for which no driver is available for my new Imac with ML OS X 10.8.5. I simply connected the scanner, opened system preference, Printer and Scanner and wow....there appeared the scanner, clicked and opened it, started scanning as usual. Very very simple. Try it folks. Good Luck.
