How do you force battery to charge ?

I have a MacBook Pro (2011) that just turned 1 year old. The battery won't charge at all anymore. The battery seems completely empty. OSX Lion displays it as 'X' in the status bar. If I disconnect adaptor the computer turns off right away (no shutdown)

Is there a way to force charging? I've already tried resetting SMC and PRAM a few time.

I posted additionnal details in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4264759

EDIT-1 : It seems the battery has also went down beyond it's reserve.

a ) I can't proceed with Battery Calibration as the computer turns off right away.

b) When I connect adapter, start computer, and login my account I'm always told that date/time was set before 2008.

I have an electrical engineering background and my understanding of batteries is that it might simply be that the nominal outputed voltage (with whatever the Macbook circuitry load is ) way lower than the batteyr nominal votage is supposed to be. Usually forcing the charge state would bring up normal charging state and resume overall Macbook charging/usage conditions.

I don't feel the battery is defective. Apple can't possible have put cheaper battery in there, they had to be picking among the best ones espicially since we can no longer remove battery in those newer Macbook Pros. I feel some force charging mode might be possible somehow ( maybe not from OSX but maybe form firmware or technician low level tools)

I always assume that those who post questions in this forum are more

knowledgeable than I am.

I cannot post any answers without supporting documentation.

Only documents found were 1. Reset SMC for power related issues.

2. If an X appears on the battery icon.

My suggestion to take the MBP to the Apple store was based on the article kb/PH4262

Best.

To Dominic23,

Thank you. Myself wa assuming there was some way to enforce battery charging (especially for newer models with non-removable battery). I find it quite stupid requiring servicing for such an issue. Sometime, one might not be able to go to a fabcy Apple store or some other authorized Apple servicing place:

a) too far (migth be far up north ... far form basically anything )

b) on a really tight schedule and cannot afford wasting that time

Anyways, I'll give you browny points as I don't recall seeing article PH4262.
