Songs from itunes store not playing

Hey, this is not a problem with my ipod, but with my friends moms mini. She has downloaded some songs from the itunes music store and has them on her ipod now. The first time she went to play them on her ipod they played through normally just like any other song, but the second time she went to play them they wouldn't play at all and it would just skip right through to the next song. It doesn't matter if you use the seek buttons, pause the ipod before selecting the song, or seeking through the song it just goes right on to the next song that was not downloaded through iTunes. I have refreshed the ipod (or whatever its called when you flick the hold switch and then hold the select and menu button) and it did not work. I would restore it, but i figured i would ask here before because of the hassle of putting all the songs back on it. I have never herd of this before and any help would be greatly appreciated!

My iPOD mini does the same thing and i have had it for about 10 months. It just started last week and i don't know why. When i'm listening to all the songs it will skip a song sometimes 8 in a row. At first i thought it was only when i shuffled the songs but if i go to that song on the playlist it won't play it either. If anyone knows why this is happening and how to fix it could you let me know
thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

These are general instructions. You may have tried some already. 🙂

Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?

If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer...
iTunes
iPod Updater

If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?

If they don't, please post back for more suggestions.

If the fixes suggested by btabz don't work, try this.

1. Deauthorize the computer.
2. Create a new user in the system.
3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.

If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

The following articles will help you.

bbarton,

As the forum Hosts will need to gather info for the Apple engineers, can you be more specific as to what didn't work?

Did the free single of the week not play in the new user account you created, or was it just the iPod it didn't play on?

If it did play correctly, did you recreate the library as previously suggested and the songs still skip?

As much detail as you can provide please.

I am of course having the exact same problem. I wanted to add one observation I have made though. I will not have the problem if I do not let the iPod go into "deep sleep". My problem only occurs after 36 hours of not using the iPod. I believe after 36 hours of no use the iPod goes into "deep sleep". Can anyone else confirm that this is the only time they have the problem?

I am having the same problem with my mini and I would like to try the solution above. Pardon me for sounding stupid, but I'm confused -- maybe I'm missing a step. When I create a new user in the system, none of my iTunes software (including the iPod updater) are there. Do I have to re-install the iTunes software into that new account?
