$300 to fix screen on a $500 ipad - is there a better way?

ipad screen cracked. Less than 30 days old. No "applecare" insurance on it. Brought it into apple store. They charge $300 to replace it. And that doesn't include insurance. I need to buy insurance on top of that so i dont have to pay another $300 next time it cracks.

Is there a more customer-service friendly, less cost prohibitive way? EG . . .

- to replace free the1st time?

- to replace "free" 1st time on the condition that i now but insurance?

- to include insurance in the $300 cost of replacement?

The only way that may be cheaper would be to use unauthroized repair places or 'do it yourself' repairs. But doing so will void any remainder of your warranty.

Unfortunately, sometimes buying the insurance with the purchase is a good thing, for others, they've had their ipads for years and never needed a repair.

Breaking the screen is accidental damage and there are few if any manufacturers out there that will cover that on their devices.
