will not switch on

My i pod battery has been flat for a long time (about 6 months) and now it will not charge or switch on, even when connected to a charger. Is this likely to be a battery fault or soemthing more serious?

Thanks for any advice.

Normally, when the iPod Battery has been left in a discharged state for a long time, it would take at least 30 minutes, of charging to see some life in the iPod Screen.

But leave it charging for the next 2 hours, preferably 4 hours.

If after 30 Minutes, there is still no life in the iPod Screen, it is really bad News, as the battery may have leaked and the corrosive liquid damage the iPod internal circuitry.

Apple Recommends that the iPod Battery is charged at least once a month, regardless, if you are not using it or putting it in the showcase.

Use iPod Regularly

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month. If you use your iPod infrequently (gasp), you might want to add a reminder to your calendar program.

Long-Term Storage

If you don’t plan on using your iPod touch for more than three weeks, Apple recommends that you store it with the battery charged between 50%-75% and the device completely turned off, not just put to sleep. If you store it when the battery is fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life. Be sure to store your device at the proper temperature.
