I have five bars of service but my phone won't send or receive texts- HELP! Wi-fi does work

I've been trying to send text messages all day but each time my phone give me a message send failure message. I have great service so I do not know what was wrong. My iMessage and Wi-fi have been working fine. How can I fix this?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

have you contacted your phone carrier as they handle messaging.

do you have SMS turned on in message settings.

Try turning Airplane Mode On and back Off to reconnect with your carrier.
