Q: How do you add cpanel to Xsan mountain lion?

We have recently purchased Xsan and also business-class Internet with dedicated IP already our own server. But we can't seem to figure out how to use or create cPanel to host multiple clients.

 

Please let us know how to do so as we have researched all the different podcast tutorial documents still can't find any information on how to add Cpanels on Xsan or is there another system that we can use other than cPanel to create multiple hosting account thank you

    The question doesn't make sense to me. cPanel is commercial software and OS X is not a supported platform. I don't see how it's related to XSan.

    Then what do you use in order to setup hosting accounts on Xsan. You didn't really read the question and apache is compatible with osx...... Right???  Please try to answer if not don't write at all.

    The question still doesn't make sense. This doesn't appear to have anything to do with Xsan. The question seems to be about web hosting control panels that run on OS X because the storage system doesn't matter. What you apparently want to do is not a strength of Mac OS X Server. It's dominated  overwhelmingly by Linux.

    I don't honestly think you know what Mac is capable of doing as it is a server. It just depends on the control software. If you don't know please walk away.

     

    Your not helping. We are using Mac osx server. Xsan. And Mac runs apache and MySQL .... What do you know ? It isn't really making sense why your bothering.

     

    You don't know so please walk away.

    Again, Xsan is not relevant. It's confusing to even bring it up. You should post your question more clearly on another forum, perhaps the OS X Server or Lion Server forums, because the XSan forum is dominated by people in video.

     

    When I search for what you're looking for, minus Xsan, I'm finding a lot of results, ZERO of which definitively support Mac OS X. Zpanel says they support any POSIX operating system, which Mac OS X is. However this "definitive" list of web hosting control panels, in the comments, explicitly says Zpanel doesn't work on Mac OS X. Thus far I've found none. You've found none. And no one else has bothered so far to reply to your inquiry.

    Seopuma, Christopher is right. Xsan and hosting control platform: I do not understand the link.

    Apache normally deals with the virtual accounts. Since c-panel is also partially a virtualisation tool, part of the virtual host is arranged by cpanel (right management, etc), most of this is done within osx server too.

     

    So: basically within osx server, you can set up users and websites. You can grant access to a website, ftp and mail, and there you have a basic hosting platform.

    What you now not have, are the advanced options of cpanel, like account management, invoicing, installatron, etc.

    You can use vm ware to setup a cpanel controlled emviorement that utilizes the San diskspace, but its a little tricky. Unless your seting up a large shaired host it might not be the way to go.

    For some reason It wouldn't let me edit my last post.

     

    You can use VM fusion and CentOS (linux) to run your cpanel environment.

    Just set the VM to use the xsan space and your up and running.

    Just to note, cpanel doesn't support this work around.

     

    Also San Systems aren't really designed to handel the small files that are used for web/system stuff. Xsan/San systems are most widelly used for video because of the amazing throughput needed to handel uncompress/RED/ect videos across multiple computers.

     

    Web systems usally utilize shaired storage, but you can get cheap sas/sata or even ethenet connected storage for this kind of use.
