Best way to set up a phone interview?

Hi, I'm looking to set up a phone interview for my podcast. Does anyone have suggestions for how I might get the audio into Garageband?

I'm working with a Macmini and a headphone with a mic. But I don't know I can get clear sound from my phone to GB.

Thanks for the help.

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.4.2), 1.42 GH, 1GB RAM, 10gigs of internal space left and 2 external hard drives.

So Mymac,

Thanks for your research. Does this phone jack system from Radio Shack interface directly with Garageband?

I was reading last night that I could put my mic up against a speaker on my telephone and record from there. But I'm thinking the sound won't be quite as solid.

This is a very important interview with an author and I wanted to make sure it goes right.

Thanks for your and everyone else's help.

Chris, I've read some pluses and minuses about using Skype for recording whereby the audio can drop out from time to time. Plus, I'm not sure the interviewee is set up for that. I need to have a couple of options.

I'm wondering if I should try recording the audio in a portable recorder so that I don't have to worry about the GB freezing up on me as it sometimes does when I'm recording.

I too would record it on a tape player or some other recording device. Just in case you run long on time. I think with the adapters myself and MyMac suggested, you COULD plug it into the computer's line in and record that into Garageband, but again, you might go up against a length issue or a freezing computer.

Good Luck!

I'm not sure what you mean by "interface directly"? The device from RS is a hardware device specifically made for recording both sides of a phone conversation. Garageband is software. You can't plug a hardware device into software. I think you meant is it 'compatible' and the answer to that is yes. It works just like a mic only it records both sides of the conversation without hiss or interference. I recommend using the device with a cassette or micro-cassette recorder so that if anything happens you'll have a copy of the conversation. If you record directly into GB and the file gets corrupted then you'd have to have the conversation all over again. It would also be easier to do any editing with a tape vs. going directly to computer.
