My 5th Generation iPod video 60GB will not mount in OSX, the battery died and it has fully been recharged, it works great when I play music or video, but it won't mount on my desktop and it won't appear in iTunes

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting? Have you tried resetting the iPod with it still connected to your Mac? To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you worked through all the troubleshooting suggestions here as well?

Thanks for responding! I have done everything, the only thing I haven't done is hook up the ipod to my old MacBook.
Have you tried connecting the iPod in Disk Mode? If so, does it at least show up in the Finder as an externally mounted drive?
