Using the recommended method, I find that I cannot click-and-drag the order of my email accounts to change the default account. All software is up to date. Running 10.8.1 on an older uni-body MBP (model A1278). I can click but cannot drag.

I had the same problem but found that the order of the inboxes in the main mail window is what sets the default - and you can drag these around. The article is incorrect.

My order changed when I reset a password and the account affected moved to the top somehow automatically. It then became the default account without me realising it - I think this is bad as it should have retained the order or given me a clue as to the consequences.
