how can i change my rescue email?

How can iI change my rescue email? My original apple id email is no longer valid and I would like to change my apple id to what is currently my rescue email. I have a secondary email that I can change to my rescue email. However, because I could not designate my primary email as my apple id, my current secondary email is my apple id. Please help.

Hi Jenn, I have the same issue: trying to change my "old" apple I'd to the address that is currently my rescue address? Unfortunately without success. I have already changed my secondary e-mail on the "manage me apple I'd" but it seems that that is not the same as the rescue e-mail address. Have round gotten already some good tips on this?

Cheers, Bo

Sign in to manage apple ID

Go to "Password and security"

---> at this point you may be able to change your rescue email address

---> you may need to answer security questions and THEN be able to

Alt strategy --

This is what I actually did when I needed to change my rescue email. However, it is clear that the above strategies would now work for me.

I needed to change my rescue email b/c I wanted that email to be my primary email/appleID. The rescue email and primary cannot be the same for some reason. When I needed to do it, I forgot the answer to one of my security questions so was forced to click "Send reset security info email to •••••@***.com." This sent an email to my rescue email address -- so if you cannot access your rescue, this alt strategy will not work.

When I clicked the link sent, something went wrong and aple could not bring me to that page. However, when I looked back in the browser tab where I was managing my AppleID, the page/environment for "Password and security" changed. All that was there was something to click that said "Reset .....". This brought me to a page to change all 'password and security' related issues including my rescue email address.

Summary of Alt:

Sign in to manage apple ID

Go to "Password and security"

click "Send reset security info email to •••••@***.com."

--> may have to go to rescue email address and follow instructions there and it may work

--> could be you only have to renew the 'password and settings' page to see new option to click "Reset...."

--------> This latter step was available to me after clicking link in rescue email

The answer is explained above although not clear enough I believe. I had the same problem. Here is what you do:

- Login to manage your apple id at https://appleid.apple.com

- Click the "Password and Security" link on the left.

- If you have already selected security questions, you will find a link there that says "Resend to ....@someemail.com". Click on this link. If you have not yet chosen questions or you have already initiated the resend process, you will be able to change your rescue e-mail address right there, below the questions. Otherwise continue to next step.

- You will receive an e-mail to reset your questions. Click on the link inside the e-mail.

- A browser window opens. Login to your apple account.

- It should take you right to the page where you change your security questions. Below this area, you will find a place where you are able to edit your rescue address.

I hope that helps.

What if your security email address is an old one that has been deleted or you no longer use or have no access to? Such as a work email address and you have moved jobs?

I tried the above settings but they all only work with azccess to security email.

Scenario.

Renting videos; buying music ... all going well, until we need to authorize another computer say ... Apple ask for id and password. THEN they want you to remember word for word your security answers. I do not. I know I should but do not.

OK, so send a reset email through your rescue email right? NO, remember that we have moved jobs and have no access to that email.

Now what?
