    Same here......

I have the new MacBook Pro Retina display and Safari freezes up when I use Facebook.  It does the same on my iPad 3.   I'm running all the newest software and am much irritated by this.   The Facebook app for iPad is inferior to the FB website.

Same problem. Anyone tried facebook on a surface tablet?

Since someone first suggested using Puffin browser, I have been using that with mostly success.  It's a little funky at times but generally loads much faster than Safari.  Rarely it has problems and can't seem to load the page at all but for the most part it works.  Not a solution to Safari but makes me happy enough.  (Using iPad 1 and mostly 3G. My problem started with Safari and Facebook around September 2012.)

So....we are at the end of January and I updated to 6.1 last night.  Now I have the same problem you all have had for a month.   ***?   And I was considering buying an incredible MacBook Pro.   Guess not.

Funny that w#t:f-   Is showing as all stars on my comment.   Guess apple is very close to communism.  Thanks for that apple.  Guess that is the writing on the wall!

Strange, it worked on my windows 7 machine and my Linux mint 14 box.   Bummer.  I really loved my ipad.  Guess since these comments are not yet publicly viewable they will probably not ever be seen by anyone in the public.  Guess I will wait and see before jumping further into the apple community as I had planned.

Since the crashes only happen with facebook and nothing else, blame facebook, not apple or safari. I dont have any problems running the fb website on my ipad with safari. I have never liked the fb app, and it hasnt ever worked correctly for me, on a droid eris or now on this ipad.

Ummm... Congratulations on your crash free ipad.   I don't use the Facebook app either.  Try using safari and while on your FB home page ( no news feed) click a year or so back on history.  If you have been on FB that long and have activity, you will probably get the same dump of safari and return to the ipad icon screen I get.  Seems to be a memory overflow issue of some sort.  I don't know who is to blame, but my other browsers on other devices don't crash when following those steps.  As a result I am not blaming FB (though I'd love to), I am blaming safari and my ipad.

Ive had the same problem, so frustrating.  Just tried browsing a friends page on FB via Skyfire, and it crashed too.  Anyone have a solution to this?  I'm about to throw my iPad first generation out the window!

    Same problem

I reckon this is a Facebook problem, not a browser issue on the iPad. As mentioned above, I have used a number of other browser and the problem was no different on any browser, including safari on my ipad. Facebook is just too process heavy and therefore unstable.

I would add, however, that the problem has lessened I the last month for me. I now only use safari. There are still some infrequent crashes. And I am still avoiding the FB app. I would not be at all surprised to learn that fb deliberately put a spanner in the works in order to push people to using the mobile app. You have to ask why all these software companies urge us to use their apps over their websites on mobile devices.

I agree with you totally and do not use the FB app either. And yes, there has to be a reason they want us to use the app, and I suspect it has to do with information gathering from devices.

Yes, same problem for me. I am reading it's some memory issue and sites that are graphics heavy overload the iPad and it crashes. I haven't been able to find a solution or know of there is a software solution.

Before coming here I thought I was the only one , did  some research about the memory issues with graphics being heavy or too many scripts . Being a graphic designer I have to work with heavy template all the time . Most of the time it just crashed apart from this table throw company . Not sure how they put togeather their template , there is absolutely no memory issue and the machine stay alive . One more thing I noticed is the number of thread or instances or process and website or a program initiates , this effects a lot of the performance as well . I went through the script work of vivid ads and BINGO one process is created at a time with all their table throw design template and exhibitions display products

    Hope this makes sense !!
