System Overload. The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)

This question has been asked (and answered) many many times in this forum and other recording forums on the internet. I dont want to sound rude, but a search will yeild a lot of information.

You can try this KB for a start: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24535 - the KB is about the same problem on LE 9.1.4 but you will also experience it on 9.1.7

Other suggestions:

• More RAM
• Faster GDD
• Use an external HDD via Thunderbolt or FW800
• Move samples to another (fast) HDD

Etc.

Hi I'm getting the same problem, and to be fair a Mac is supposed to just work, and work well. After paying all that money, why should we have to go through this type of ordeal when all we want to do is produce some music on Logic 9. Is it much to ask? Instead of just being able to create music, we're scouring the internet to find out why things aren't working as promised. It defeats the object of buying a Mac if we then have to buy more ram etc. To say you might need to upgrade things like ram just says that your mac isn't powerful enough to make music. I may aswell have just spent more money on a great PC. When I bought my iMac I was told by apple staff that it was a powerful machine and could handle loads of soft synths and audio without glitching. This has turned out to be bare faced lies. It should just work, and work great. But....it doesn't.

I agree with you entirely. Apple are liars and cheats. They are trying to get people to spend more money on their ****** programmes. I never had any problems with windows but £2300.00 for a Mac Pro 6 years ago and it can do **** all only annoy me.

Generally, an iMac *is* capable of doing what you want, but there are many, many variables that may need consideration.

What specification iMac?

Which Instrument plugins are you using (any 3rd party ones)?

Several comments here:

a) You should be able to download the Logic updater via Software Update, or manually from Apple Downloads

b) Some of the plugins you are using are well known as CPU resource hogs (Massive, and (potentially) Alicia's Keys, etc).

c) Some of the plugins (Alicia's Keys, Symphobia etc) that run in Kontakt will likely use disk streaming. You may need to consider where you store these libraries, and how fast that hard-drive is. It is generally recommended that these libraries should NOT be on the System drive (except perhaps if it is an SSD).

d) You may well find improvements by studying the KB articles I posted earlier.

• Provide a detailed descrition of your set up - hardware, software, plugins, etc.
• Explain what you are doing when this overload occurs
• Explain what other suggestions you have tried that havent worked

Thanks for your reply. My machine's spec is a 2.5 GHz Processor, and 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3. I'm using Mac OSX Lion, version 10.7.5. I've noticed that there is an update for Logic. I have 9.1.6, but I've seen that 9.1.8 is available. I've tried downloading it, and installing it, but it a message comes up and says I have to download it from the Mac store. I did download it from the Mac store, so now I'm stuck and don't know what to do. (could the problems be to do with not having that update?). I had a PC Laptop with half the spec my mac is, and even when my hard disk space was nearly full, it still took quite a bit of audio for it to glitch, but it never just stopped like my mac does. I didn't have any problems with any type of plug-ins with my PC. Yeah I have plug-ins such as Sugarbytes Wow, Fabfilter, NI Massive, Alicia's Keys, Albino 3 etc, because there's no way in the world I just want to use Logic's own instruments/fx. I want to buy Symphobia or Vienna Symphonic, but I'm figuring there's no point in wasting my money if things are already coming to a stand-still. I can't afford a power mac.

I'm going to read the articles now, and see if they help. I just didn't expect to have to do stuff like this, because I've produced music for years, and never had such a hassle. I appreciate your help though!! Thanks a lot.

I actually managed to install the updates. Yeah, i'm gonna devote some time tomo to do everything mentioned in the articles, plus I'm upgrading to 16 gb ram from 4, and have ordered an external firewire 2 tb hard drive (if it's good I'll get anotherone for back-up). It's all money though. To be fair, for the amount of money I spent on PCs (with cubase) and their low specs, they seemed to perform better in relative terms, and I didn't have to mess around with stuff, and buy extra accesories. Their only problem was they couldn't perform well when tonnes of audio and plug-ins were on the go. I thought simply buying a mac would be an instant miraculous improvement (from all the hype I heard). It's not that simple obviously, ha.

Just letting you know I've upgraded to 20 gig of ram. Everything is amazing now (better than when it was brand new). Once I get my external drives, that will hopefully keep it this way. Plus the articles were helpful. I've realised I don't bus things enough in logic, and have too much going on per track.
