Upgrade from Lion Server to ML 10.8.1 Broke Mail server!

....10.8.1 OD seems to work, files and AFP available, but Mail server not working correctly. Now users don't see mail, postfix issues numerous errors about missing system_user_maps and delivers no mail? Must recover mails! Help! Where should I look, and what to read for Diagnosis ?

After upgrade in place from SL to Lion to ML. most services did not work correctly; except for Mail and DNS and OD. Reinstalled. Now most everything seems to work including Card Services, Calendars, Wiki, Web, DNS, OD. But Mail is off and missing??? No delivery of INcoming mail, No Sending Mail, no IMAP Mail login for users.

On Mail configuration in Server.App: Turned off All Filtering. Have rebooted Server several times, Restarted Mailserver from Server,app and Terninal. Same Results. Somewhere along the line from Server 10.5 to SL to Lion to 10.8 incoming Maill started going to user@PLG1.plg-law.com rather than simply user@plg-law.com.

Is it possible that virtual domains are fuzzing up the works? The error logs use the longer virtual domain (with the sevrer name prefix) rather than the domain name?

it's seems odd that this error pops up now....

It doesn't say it can't read or is missing

but says it's malformed, but missing keys in the plist file.

have you tried opening it with TextWrangler?

I'm wondering if the file got corrupted within the last day... which makes me wonder if why the corruption.

Just curious what computer are you using for server? and how old is it? is it using the original hard drives? Also by any chance you might have a RAID 1 which is mirroring. Just wondering about your setup since perhaps can improve it later.

If autoportmap.plist seems corrupted I wonder if you can pull a backup copy from TimeMachine from the last day or two and replace it (Note keep the corrupted one in case).

Before you do this, first fix the system_user_maps issue and see how that turns out.

Hay: Thanks. Done. Mail Server restarted....waited 15 minutes. Mail is accessble, but sending mail or logging in to smptp server does not work.

Interesting, I checkd and the System_users_maps that were in the /Config/Postfix directory before are gone? Rebuilt bo Server.App? Hidden?

I remember looking at a Discussion thread on Postmaps command for building .db for postfix. I'll see if that works. Brian

Does the system_user_maps exist in /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/?

No. There are several other .db files located there with a paired file of same name but minus the .db suffuix. There is a System_user_map file with a date of 09/06/2012 but no syste_iser_map.db file. Hmm. What causes the .db to be rebuilt? Commandline options?

don't know.. first let me finish fixing some stuff on my client's Lion Server before their business opens in the next half hour. I probably won't move them over to Mountain Lion Server for a few month til I deem it's safe for them. Would be nice because of new profile manager in 10.8 server sine they have over 30 ipads on the field for their nurses.

Just ran this Command:

sudo postmap /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/system_user_maps. And Confirmed that the .dsb was build in /Config/Postfix directory.

Watching, waiting to see if restart iof Mail server quiets down errors.

Better. But not perfect. Well some errors are gone, but surprisingly a smtpdreject error has surfaced again (despite earlier fix of .db and main.cf to find this .db):

Have you checked if smtpdreject is there? and what is the actually file name?

Yeah fixed my clients issues and also blocked off an attacker .. yeah I should turn on Lion's Adaptive Firewall....

At least with this client they're running both OS Lion Server and WIndows 2008 Server... I don't like having all services running on just one computer.

Yes. The correct .db for smtpdreject.db is located in /Config/postfix directory? Odd. Watching right now to see if mail is processed correctly incoming and outgoing.....

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.... not just on Mac/Windows Server stuff, DSLRs/Photography/Wedding photography, and bicycles (Mountain/Road bikes).

I just assumed you already corrected main.cf file /Library/Server/Mail/postfix/

the offending line is:

Just curious for the server.. how many upgrades has it gone through example fron 10.5 to 10.6. to 10.7. to 10.8?

I did change that line; and I just confirmed that exact line is in the main.cf. No errors or typos, exactly as you show above..........After checking I restarted Mail from Server.app.....Watching
